Artist biography

Peter Rose PULHAM 1910–1956

Photographer and painter. Born 26 June 1910 at Hampstead Garden Suburb, London. Studied at the Architectural Association School of Architecture 1927–8 and then at Worcester College, Oxford; member of the A.A. 1926–31. A leading photographer, doing much work for Harper's Bazaar; gave this up for painting 1938. In Surrealist circles in Paris in the 1930s up to 1940; returned there 1944–5. One-man exhibitions at the Redfern Gallery 1947 and the Hanover Gallery 1950; represented in the Recent Trends in Realist Painting exhibition at the I.C.A. 1952. Lived at Conives, Indre, France from c. 1948–9 and died there 18 May 1956.
