Artist biography

Rita M. LING b. 1922

Sculptor. Born 7 November 1922 in Wolverhampton of Irish and Anglo-Swedish-Scottish parents. Studied at Wolverhampton College of Art and from 1946 to 1950 at the R.C.A.; her art masters were R. J. Emmerson, Frank Dobson and John Skeaping. Taught at the Farnham School of Art 1950 and at the R.C.A., where she was the first woman tutor in Sculpture, 1955. In 1954 worked with John Skeaping on the carvings on the Dutch Church, Austin Friars.
