The artist said this was doubtless a Swiss or Tyrolean landscape executed towards the beginning of the century and exhibited in London at that time. But as he made a large number in the same style, he could not place it exactly (letter of June 1952).
It may have been among the pastels exhibited in his one-man shows at the Dutch Gallery in 1902 (8-10) or the Carfax Gallery in 1903 (10-12) with titles such as 'Firs on the Jura at Dawn'.
