The artist wrote that this picture was not a portrait of any particular child, and that it was painted in 1947 and exhibited in 1948 at the Anglo French Art Centre in London (letter of 4 April 1960). However it appears in the donor's records as a work of 1948, and the catalogue of the Clavé exhibition at the Anglo French Art Centre, which took place in October 1947, does not list a picture of this subject.
