Cotman visited Domfront on his third tour of Normandy in 1820. Among the various drawings he worked up from sketches made there was a watercolour version of T00972 (collection Sir Hickman Bacon, repr. A P Oppé, The Water-Colour Drawings of John Sell Cotman, 1923, pl. XIV).
