Subjects such as this attracted the attention of the CoBrA group which Götz was invited to join in 1949. During the period immediately following the War Götz, in his works on paper, experimented widely with his techniques and imagery, finding in monotypes a rich range of possibilities for manipulating the processes of printing and also making a series of drawings (1945) using an airpump. Phantasmagorical creatures and plant forms began to crowd his woodcuts and watercolours in 1946. He produced a number of monotypes depicting bird-humans, often with satirical titles: here the arrival of the new born is celebrated.
