The artist used to stay at Cookham and Marlow and painted a number of river scenes. This is a watercolour version of the oil painting ‘Marooned’ which was exhibited at the R.A. in 1887 (839) and purchased by the artist's patron, Charles Galloway of Manchester (sold Christie's, 2 June 1905; repr. Studio, XLVIII, 1909, p.87, as in the Collection of W. H. Henderson). It was previously catalogued as ‘Marooning’.
