This picture represents a little village called Villeméneux near La Ferté-sous-Jouarre, a small town in the department of the Seine-et-Marne. The artist had a country house in the neighbourhood. A very small oil sketch and a gouache of the same motif were still in his possession in 1963. (Letter from the artist, 26 February 1963).
