This print is related to the series of ‘Shifts’ paintings made from the mid to late 1970s. Four drawings of the same title as the print were exhibited in 1978 (Park Square Gallery, Leeds). In all these works Loker expands the idea of using a multiple viewpoint, a time element, to construct images of landscape features. His formal vocabulary of marks is used, often against a grid, to convey the viewer's movement through landscape in a series of stages with the consequent shifts of emphasis and perspective.
