The first of six casts. A drawing for the sculpture is in the possession of the artist, who has written that this work dates from 1948 to 1949, about the same time as ‘Forms on a Bow’, T00227. ‘The original or plaster, which consists of a column and a round form with projections, was conceived and fabricated in Paris but not cast until recently. Of course each sculpture consists of the same column and form cast twice.... The sculpture in plaster has never been shown as it was designed for sand casting’ (letter of 15 October 1961).
