John Piper[no title] 1978

The print portfolio Stones and Bones replicates something of the feel of Piper’s sketchbooks, containing landscapes, figure studies and sketches of prehistoric and Christian carvings. The prints reproduce Piper's photographs and sketches, sometimes two to a page and with annotations and quotations. These two scenes are of rocks at Nant Francon, North Wales, near where the Pipers had a cottage for some years. The quotation is from AC Ramsay The Old Glaciers of Switzerland and North Wales, 1860.
