Peter Henry Emerson, L.R.C.P., M.R.C.S., B.A., M.B. (1856–1936), was an author of books on archaeology, the Norfolk Broads and other allied subjects between 1885 and 1925. He was also a pioneer of artistic photography. The bas-relief was given to the sitter by the artist, whose friend he was for many years.
