Nos.26 and 27 appeared as illustrations to Volume V of 'The Prose Works of Sir Walter Scott'. This contained 'Paul's Letters to his Kinsfolk', which are essentially those written by Scott himself during his tour of the Continent in the summer of 1815 and discuss the Battle of Waterloo in considerable detail. Turner's frontispiece showing the charming environs of Brussels is based on sketches made on his way to visit the site of the battle in 1817, and provides a very strong contrast to his vignette of Hougoumont which appeared on the facing page (no.27).
