Catalogue entry

Warrell has suggested1 that this is a leaf from the South Wales sketchbook (Tate; Turner Bequest XXVI); but the dimensions of the sheet contradict that identification. They roughly correspond, however, to those of the view of St Augustine’s Gatehouse (Tate D01110; Turner Bequest XXXVI P), and the views of Rochester (Tate D00158, D00159, D01109; Turner Bequest XV B, C, XXXVI O). Another view of Christchurch Gate is in the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge.2
