The drawing was made with the page turned vertically. Derbyshire was a centre of lead mining for many centuries; another study probably near the same mine is on folio 27 recto (D00234; Turner Bequest XIX 26). Other drawings of High Tor are among the loose sheets associated with the Midland tour (Tate D00340, D00341; Turner Bequest XXI M, N).
