Join us for the switch on of Alan Kane's Home for Christmas and celebrate with free festive activities for local people

The Tate Britain Christmas Commission 2017 Home for Christmas by Alan Kane will see the main entrance of Tate Britain aglow with an arrangement of off-the-shelf Christmas themed lights. Come and warm yourself with mince pies, carols from London City Voices, torch lit tours of our Turner paintings, Christmas crafts as well as free entry for the first 100 people with a local postcode to The EY Exhibition: Impressionists in London – French Artists in Exile 1870–1904.

Programme

Welcome Space
14.00–18.00, Drop-in, Manton Studio
Visit the Manton Studio to pick up a programme and discover our festive offer. Enjoy a mince pie and mulled wine and meet Tate staff and volunteers to find out about connections we may have across local boroughs and opportunities to get involved at Tate.

Playing Up
14.00–17.00, Drop-in, Octagon
Bring the whole family to get hands-on with this introduction to live art. A bunch of out-there ideas allow you to spend memorable time together, by fostering your children’s creativity, confidence and imagination.

Christmas Crafts
14.00–17.30, Manton Studio
Create Christmas crafts and gifts and add your hand-made decoration to a giant Christmas tree using recycled materials, with Millbank Creative Works.

Make Space
15.00–16.30, Drop-in, Duveen Galleries
Taking a festive theme, this friendly workshop invites you to discuss artworks in a safe and supported environment and enjoy making your own response using materials from the Make Space art trolley.

Ask a Curator

Meet Linsey Young, Curator of Contemporary British Art, for a talk on some of our upcoming exhibitions and displays.

Audio Descriptive Tour

Have paintings brought to life through this fully accessible audio described tour for blind and partially sighted visitors with a special festive theme.

BSL Tour

Join us for a British Sign Language tour and discover the signs of winter hidden throughout the galleries and the collection.

Give a Talk at Tate

Join Tate’s Visitor Experience team who will guide you through each step of the process to create and deliver your very own personal talk about an artwork from the collection. No prior art knowledge required.

London City Voices choir

Hear London City Voices as they add much merriment to a few Christmas classics.

Turner Torch Lit Tour
