William SHACKLETON 1872–1933

Painter of subject pictures and landscapes. Born 14 January 1872 in Bradford. Studied at Bradford Technical College and was awarded a Royal Exhibition to the R.C.A. 1893. Travelled to France and Italy on a British Institute Scholarship and studied at the Académie Julian, Paris. At first painted in Sussex, but after 1905 chiefly in London. Exhibited at the R.A. 1895–1919 and the N.E.A.C. 1901–33, member 1909. First one-man exhibition at the Goupil Gallery 1910. Retrospective exhibition at the Leicester Galleries 1922. Died in London 9 January 1933.
