In ‘1st Sculpture’, 1966, an image like two Christmas trees attached at their tops by a tube is wrapped twice around a regular cylinder that lies inconsequentially on its side. The complementary images interlock. This dovetailing of shapes, and the division between them, were suggested by the seams of a tennis ball.
