A statue entitled ‘Dawn’, possibly the original plaster for this work, was exhibited at the R.A. in 1909 (1830). It was Hartwell's practice to make a careful model of his works in plaster and then employ assistants to carry out most of the carving, himself adding no more than the finishing touches.
