Catalogue entry

On account of its inscription this sheet was assigned by Finberg to the first Continental tour, but David Hill has identified the subject as a view looking north from the west bank of Loch Lomond, at or near Luss.1 Compare the drawing in the 1801 Scotch Lakes sketchbook (Tate D02984, D41242; Turner Bequest LVI 37a–38), which is inscribed ‘Benlowman from Luss’.
