Itaú, the largest Latin American bank, became the lead sponsor of Mira Schendel at Tate Modern from 25 September 2013–19 January 2014.

This was the first retrospective of Schendel’s work ever to take place outside of Latin America, giving one of the continent’s most important and prolific post-war artists a global platform.

Itaú recognised the opportunity to create a highly impactful association with this pioneering Brazilian artist in the heart of London, a city of strategic importance to their international business. The exhibition provided an ideal partnership platform for Itaú to engage their target audiences, and to build on their long-term commitment to supporting Brazilian arts and culture. Our partnership enabled us to introduce Schendel to the British public, contributing to a wider understanding of the impact and significance of Brazilian art.

Fernando Chacon, CMOat Itaú Unibanco, said

We are very proud to extend our support of the arts by sponsoring Mira Schendel at Tate Modern, since we truly believe that the access to culture can transform society. This will be the largest survey ever of her work and we are very happy to be able to be part of an exhibition which will share with the public over 250 paintings, drawings and sculptures from her contemporary vision of art.
