The contents of the present showing have been personally selected by the artist himself.
Manzù has never joined a movement nor subscribed to any manifesto: his increasingly isolated position is as much a basic condition of his aims as part of his personality.
The present exhibition is mainly devoted to works of the post-war period, a period of outstanding productivity and stability, in which he produced works of great lyrical quality. Sacrificing none of their power and originality, these late sculptures (1947 onwards), enriched by experience, have more than just an outward appeal; the movement of form in space is accentuated, the rhythm individualised and enlivened.
