Ben Lerner is acclaimed for novels, poetry, stories and essays that play with notions of fiction and often engage with contemporary art. This is a unique opportunity to hear him discuss his highly anticipated novel The Topeka School, an exploration of parenthood, masculinity and race in contemporary society. Ben will be joined in conversation by the writer and lecturer Katherine Angel. The event will be introduced by Helen Legg, Director of Tate Liverpool.
The talk will be followed by a book signing.

Biography
Ben Lerner
Ben Lerner was born in Topeka, Kansas, in 1979. He has received fellowships from the Fulbright, Guggenheim, and MacArthur Foundations, and is the author of two internationally acclaimed novels, Leaving the Atocha Station and 10:04. He has published three poetry collections and the collected poems, No Art, as well as the iconic essay The Hatred of Poetry. Lerner lives and teaches in Brooklyn.
Katherine Angel
Katherine Angel is the author of Unmastered: A Book On Desire, Most Difficult To Tell (Penguin, FSG, 2012) and Daddy Issues (Peninsula Press, 2019). Her next book, Tomorrow Sex Will Be Good Again, will be published by Verso in 2021. Katherine is Director of the MA in Creative and Critical Writing at Birkbeck, University of London, and has a PhD from Cambridge University in the history of psychiatry and sexuality. Her writing has appeared or is forthcoming in Granta, The White Review, Prospect, The New Statesman, Los Angeles Review of Books, Aeon, and Five Dials.
