A series of screenings of the work of German filmmaker Peter Nestler, part of a retrospective organised by Goethe-Institut London.

Peter Nestler’s first film, By the Dike Sluice, presents life in a small seaside village, unusually described from the perspective of an old floodgate. Dedicated to Nestler, Straub and Huillet’s Itinerary of Jean Bricard is based on a book by Jean-Yves Petiteau (who narrates the film) and deals with the history of the Loire region, from commercial fishing and farming in the 1930s, through the Occupation, the Resistance and its brutal suppression. Up the Danube follows a riverboat upstream, excavating the river’s layers of history from Roman times to the present.

Introduced by Martin Brady, Kings College.

We are sorry to announce that Peter and Zsóka Nestler had to cancel their visit to London due to unforeseen circumstances.
