135 Grand Street 1979 is an invaluable document of the No Wave music scene in New York capturing early performances by Chinese Puzzle, Theoretical Girls, The Static, Ut, Morales and Youth in Asia. Ericka Beckman documented the infamous Nancy Party Club, a music night held in the loft of artists Paul McMahon and Nancy Chunn. Here a whole generation of artists – whom Ericka knew though The Kitchen and Artists Space – came together to play music in a battle of the bands atmosphere. Originally commissioned by Rotterdam’s VPRO Television, the Super 8 footage filmed by Ericka lay unrouched for nearly 30 years. This evening features the restored and re-edited film, showing the vitality and uncompromising music of the era.
