In the fast changing and increasingly interdisciplinary environment of the contemporary art world, what does it mean to be an artist today?
To accompany the recently published AKADEMIE X: Lessons in Art and Life (Phaidon Press), this one-day public programme explores and reveals some of the mysteries behind the life and creative processes of being and becoming a professional artist. Join us for a series of artist-led ‘lessons’ offering a unique chance to learn more about where “the real business of being an artist” begins, through rule-breaking, creative thinking and seeing – to experience ‘an art school without walls.’
Throughout the day, three artists share their experiences, wisdom, techniques and philosophies on being an artist today by addressing some of the practical and philosophical questions raised in this publication, such as: can anyone become an artist once provided with the right tools for thinking, seeing and living? And from the perspective of learning, is there such a thing as the ideal curriculum for an aspiring artist? These public events aim to negotiate and challenge our perceptions of what it takes to become - and be - an artist in our complex and changing times.
The event marks the publication of AKADEMIE X: Lessons in Art and Life (Phaidon Press), a guide on how to live a creative life by some of the world’s most thought-provoking artists and writers who each share their experiences, wisdom, techniques and philosophies on both art and life.
Tickets are available with a special discount on the AKADEMIE X: Lessons in Art and Life.
