The first major museum exhibition by Romani visual artist, educator and activist Małgorzata Mirga-Tas opens at Tate St Ives this October.
Join us for an exclusive preview evening with welcome from Tate St Ives Director, Anne Barlow.
In her work Mirga-Tas challenges stereotypical representations of Roma people, often reimagining artworks that have previously presented Roma identity in a negative light to create new images permeated with power and poise.
Emphasising the contemporary community of Roma and its rich heritage, she creates vivid portraits and scenes from everyday life using materials such as clothing, sheets and tablecloths, gathered in many instances from friends and family.
