This September we welcome Josie KO as our new Teylu Visiting Artist. This new annual programme invites a contemporary artist to Tate St Ives to co-create an immersive and participatory large-scale artwork with local families, young people and community groups in our Foyle Studio.
Josie will offer families the chance to make art alongside her, learning about the work while also getting involved and exploring new types of making.
Please note the Studio will be closed for a short time each day for community groups to take part.
On Sunday 28 September, families of all ages will be able to take part for £1 entry between 10.00–15.00 to make with Josie KO and visit our exhibitions. Click here to book. Tickets include gallery entry.
Josie KO produces installations incorporating sculptures which reveal the presence of hidden histories that speak to the Black British culture. Bringing together kitsch and DIY aesthetics, full of colour and humour, Josie’s work glorifies the handmade and drifts from the norms of Western art ideals.
This project is part of Teylu at Tate.
Teylu (pronounced Tay-loo) is the Cornish word for family. At Tate St Ives, our families programme is intergenerational and inclusive of all kinds of kin. From parents and carers to chosen family, we develop creative learning activities and artist-led experiences for early years through to elders.
Tate St Ives is located on Porthmeor Beach. There is a ramp up to the gallery entrance alongside stairs with a handrail.
There are lifts to all Levels of the gallery, or alternatively you can take the stairs.
