John Burke

‘Guns Captured at Ali Musjid.’ Burke photographed lines of captured enemy material on several occasions. The pictures were popular back in the Imperial homeland, giving the impression that the war was successful and therefore justified. Support faltered later in the campaign after battlefield setbacks and reports of savage reprisals.
