T01149 TWISTER I 1962
Not inscribed.
Welded steel, 25×12×5⅛ (63.5×30.5×13).
Presented by Mr Alistair McAlpine 1969.
Coll: Purchased by Alistair McAlpine from the artist through Marlborough Fine Art Ltd.
Exh: Meiji Shobo Touring Exhibition, Japan ? 1964.
According to Tony Reichardt of Marlborough Fine Art, this sculpture was one of a series of welded pieces made when, on the expiry of his contract, the artist felt free not to work for bronze casting. Some of the steel he used was scrap, found in the out-houses of his recently acquired house.
The ‘Twisters’, which are clearly related to his ‘Watchers’, also form a series but have not been generally released by the artist.
