This sketch is painted on a cigar box lid, a type of support frequently used by Churchyard. As very little of Churchyard's work is datable, it is difficult to suggest what the missing digits in the faint pencil inscription are. The scene is probably at Woodbridge and the tower that of St Mary's church.
