Display caption
This drawing may have been prepared as an instruction piece to illustrate three stages in the creation of a drawing. On the left is the initial outline of a tree, in the centre is a partially shaded tree, and on the right is a fully shaded example. The final image shows how the graphite is built up to give a rich textural effect.
