Display caption
In 1923 Gris experimented with pen and ink drawing for the first time. Different types of marks, from tight to light grids, to areas of looping squiggles, create a varied and interesting tonal and rhythmic range. The guitar and music book were the subjects of several early cubist still lifes by Picasso, Braque and Gris.
