Summary
This is one of many portraits Hockney has made of his mother, Laura, since his early days at Bradford School of Art. His best-known representation of his parents is perhaps the large double portrait My Parents, 1977 (Tate Gallery T03255). Mrs Hockney was a more willing sitter than her husband, and the artist portrays her with great psychological insight. She was widowed in 1978.
