All inscribed ‘Hodgkin 79’ bottom centre P07395– P07396 inscribed ‘80/100’, P011005- P11006 inscribed ‘62/100’.
Four etchings, two with hand-colouring, printed by Petersburg Press, New York and published by Petersburg Press, each approx 29 3/4×39 1/4 (75.7×99.5)
P07395-P07396 purchased from Petersburg Press (Grant-in-Aid) 1980, P11005-P11006 presented by E.J. Power 1980
This set of four soft-ground etchings is in two pairs [P07395-P07396 and P11005-P11006] using each of two plates twice but subtly changing the mood, mainly by the addition of broad swathes of hand-applied watercolour. ‘Thinking Aloud’ changes to ‘All Alone’ with a deep ‘L’ shape of hand colouring. ‘Late Afternoon’, the only one on buff-coloured paper, changes to ‘Early Evening’ with dark areas closing in around the central part of the image.
