This portfolio marks a transition in Jacklin's imagery from regular abstract configurations to a more representational vein, while at the same time commenting on his visual language by showing an image of a vase of flowers evolving into an expressive pattern of line and tone. The first print shows anemones in a patterned vase on a window still with a deep shadow to the front and right of the image. Numbers ‘II’ to ‘V’ show the flower heads dying and falling onto the sill and taking on a new formal role with the shadows and with fragments of the pattern from the vase. In ‘VI’ a regular pattern is forming at the top of the image and in ‘VII’ the pattern has become the complete image though it retains the identities of the original formal components.
