A wide range of art, including 16th and 17th century painting, interested Pre-Raphaelite artists in later years. Rosa Triplex was inspired by Anthony van Dyck’s painting Charles I in Three Positions, now part of the Royal Collection. Dante Gabriel Rossetti gave his later works literary and mythical titles, but they have no story. This prioritises their atmosphere and beauty. During this period, Alexa Wilding was Rossetti’s preferred model. He liked her commanding presence.
