Display caption
Among the many self-portraits that Roth made in the 1970s, this portfolio of two-colour etchings seems to look back to the Constructivism of his early years. The drawn structure, seen in an architectural projection, is reminiscent of a modernist building and overlaid with blurred photographs that (presumably) show the artist. A sense of personal entrapment may underlie this image: the same structure appears in other prints, where it is associated with a cage.
