Catalogue entry
T03640 Seascape (Cliffs) c.1895
Pastel on paper 5 1/4 × 8 1/4 (135 × 209) inscribed with studio stamp b.l.
Presented anonymously in memory of Terence Rattigan 1983
Prov: Galerie Les Deux-Iles, Paris (purchased from the artist's daughter); the donor c.1966
The view is probably a Breton one, and the site may be quite close to those of the two following works T03641-T03642; indeed they may even all have been done on the same visit.
Although Schuffenecker was a member of Gauguin's circle for a number of years, his own work remained Impressionist in character.
