Display caption
Tindle was born in Huddersfield and studied at Coventry School of Art from 1945 to 1947. Since his first solo exhibition at the Piccadilly Gallery, London in 1954 he has exhibited widely in the UK and Europe and has taught extensively, becoming the Ruskin Master of Drawing in 1985. In his minutely-observed paintings, Tindle imbues everyday scenes and subjects with a sense of mystery. The jacket hanging over the back of the chair in Telephone suggests a human presence outside the image.
