Catalogue entry

The drawing is continued on folio 53 recto opposite (D01780; Turner Bequest XLI 105). Turner’s inscription may indicate ‘Hay or Brecon’. This and the following views, on folios 53 verso and 54 recto (D01781D01782; Turner Bequest XLI 106, 107), seem to be of Hay Castle. The ragged silhouette of the ruined building with its attached seventeenth-century manor house may also be visible behind the medieval tower shown on folios 36 verso–37 recto and 37 verso–38 recto (D01747–D01750; Turner Bequest XLI 72–73, 74–75).
