There is a prominent vertical fold at the centre. The surface is stained, particularly towards the top left, and notably wrinkled, possibly as a result of damp or damage in the 1928 Tate Gallery flood.

Blank, laid down; inscribed in pencil ‘CCLXIII. 132’, stamped in black with Turner Bequest monogram over ‘CCLXIII – 132’ and inscribed in pencil ‘D25254’ top left, upside down.
