Catalogue entry

The street recorded in this drawing apparently leads down to the sea, and there is possibly a harbour in the distance. The town has not been identified, but may be one of the coastal settlements around Middlesbrough, which Turner is likely to have passed through on his way from Whitby to Durham.
The somewhat perfunctory washes of blue watercolour on what is otherwise a simple pencil drawing may have been added while Turner was making the watercolour study on folio 14 recto (D02480).
