Catalogue entry

Ardtornish Castle on Ardtornish Point is seen in these two sketches from the Sound of Mull to the east (see also folio 53 verso (D26485). The sketches were made as Turner steamed down the Sound on his return to Oban after visiting the Isles of Skye and Staffa.
This is one of nine pages of studies of the castle: see folio 51 (D26480) for references and details. As he steamed away Turner made a sketch with the whole of the promontory (folio 54 verso; D26847), and then made a sketch of the castle in the distance from the east (folio 55; D26848).
