Aysgarth Force is the furthest downstream and the grandest of three falls on the River Ure at Aysgarth. This sketch formed the basis of a studio watercolour of Aysgarth Force (Indianapolis Museum of Art)1 engraved in Thomas Dunham Whitaker History of Richmondshire, part of the projected seven-volume General History of the County of York (see Introduction to the sketchbook), and published on 1 June 1820.
