Display caption
This distant view of Bellinzona does not seem to have been previously exhibited. This is because once Ruskin's scheme had been adopted as a means of making Turner's sketches available to the public, this watercolour was put back with drawings Ruskin considered less interesting and has remained uncatalogued until this exhibition. Turner made a number of views looking back to Bellinzona from the road to Locarno, inevitably focusing on the bridge spanning the fast-flowing River Ticino.
