Catalogue entry

This rough sketch shows the same view as the sketch inscribed ‘2’ on the reverse of this page: folio 75 verso (D26403). The buildings at the top of the page, which are here just outlined and shaded in, are on folio 75 verso drawn in a little more detail and are suggestive of, from left to right, the Nelson Monument, the Stewart Monument and the Governor’s House of Calton Gaol on Calton Hill. The houses in the foreground suggest a view from Leith Street just to the west of the hill.
