With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled this page with riverside views punctuated by bridges and buildings typical of northern France. The bridge in the lower left-hand quadrant of the page is the old arched structure which once crossed the Seine at Corbeil-Essonnes, located some seventeen miles south of central Paris. Turner made several sketches at this location in this volume, a list of which is included in the sketchbook Introduction.
