This is a much slighter version of the design for octagonal glazed lights shown on folio 48 of the sketchbook (D07046; Turner Bequest 44). These plans are to be associated with Turner’s plans for his own gallery, along with other drawings and diagrams in the sketchbook; see Introduction for Turner’s new gallery behind his house in Queen Anne Street West, opened in 1822.
