Catalogue entry

Here Turner has filled the page with distant views of Namur, the majority taken as the artist looked upstream towards the citadel which dominates the confluence of the Meuse and Sambre Rivers. Of the buildings shown in profile, the Baroque dome of Saint Aubin Cathedral, the steeple of Saint John the Baptist Church and the medieval belfry of Namur can be seen.
